1. Introduction to Incoloy800 Materials

Incoloy 800 alloy contains 15-25% chromium, 30-45% nickel, plus a small amount of aluminum and titanium.

After high-temperature rapid cooling, Incoloy 800 maintains single austenite phase, so its service microstructure is fully austenitic.

High chromium and sufficient nickel content grant it outstanding high-temperature corrosion resistance, widely used in various industrial fields.

It performs excellently against stress corrosion cracking in chloride media, low-concentration NaOH aqueous solution and high-temperature high-pressure water, so it is applied to fabricate anti-stress-corrosion-cracking equipment.

4. Incoloy800 material features

Corrosion resistance: Superior to ordinary austenitic stainless steel and Inconel 600 alloy;

For equipment resisting stress corrosion cracking, its performance outperforms Inconel 600 and Monel 400 alloys.

Incoloy800 welding process:

Compatible with all conventional welding methods for joining identical alloy or dissimilar metals, including GTAW, plasma arc welding, SMAW, GMAW and FCAW; pulse arc welding is the preferred process. For manual arc welding, mixed shielding gas (Ar+He+H2+CO2) is recommended.

Hot processing:

  • Processing temperature range: 1200℃~950℃, cool by water quenching or rapid air cooling
  • Solution heat treatment is mandatory after hot working to obtain optimal mechanical and creep resistance performance
  • Charge material directly into furnace preheated to 1200℃, hold sufficiently then hot forge within temperature window; reheat once material temperature drops below processing range

Cold processing:

  • Higher work hardening rate than austenitic stainless steel, corresponding processing equipment is required. Cold forming shall be carried out on solution-treated stock; intermediate annealing is needed for large cold reduction
  • Secondary solid solution treatment is required if cold working reduction exceeds 10%

5. Incoloy800 application field

  • Chemical Industry equipment
  • Nuclear power generators
  • Nitrate coolers, acetic anhydride cracking tubes
  • Heat exchangers and heat exchange tubes
