1. Introduction to M4 materials

M4 is a high-carbon and high-vana powder high-speed steel. It has the advantages of low carbide unevenness and high toughness and is prone to overheating. Therefore, the quenching and heating temperature should be strictly controlled and the heat treatment protection requirements are strict. Due to its good hardness and wear resistance, the tool used to make difficult cutting materials M4 high-speed steel has a high carbide tendency, so it has strict requirements for heat treatment protection and is suitable for molds that withstand vibration and impact loads.

3. M4 corresponding grade and performance

Refer to the corresponding steel number of the United States UNS standard steel number T11304, German DIN standard material number TSP4, American AISI/SAE standard steel number M4, Sweden Yishengbai UDDEHOLM standard steel number ASP 23.

The starting temperature of the hot processing specification is 1040-1150℃, and the termination temperature is 930℃.

The annealing standard temperature is 870-900℃, cooled with the furnace, and the hardness after annealing is 223-255HBS.

The preheating temperature for quenching and tempering is standardized at 730~850℃, the quenching temperature of salt bath furnace is 1024℃, and the controllable atmosphere furnace is 1216℃. The quenching medium is oil, air-cooled or salt bath, the tempering temperature is 550℃, and the hardness after tempering is 66~61HRC.

4. M4 application fields

Cold forging die, fine punch die, powder press die, etc., shearing machine die, plastic die with glass fiber added, etc. Suitable for bearing vibration and impact loads: deep-drawing molds, punching molds. Metal cutting saw blades, cold heading and extrusion tools, etc.
