1. Introduction to C4 Materials

      The corresponding grade of C4 stainless steel is 00Cr14Ni14Si4, which is an ultra-low-carbon, high-silicon austenitic stainless steel, super acid-resistant, and has excellent corrosion resistance in strong oxidative media, which is far superior to general stainless steel (such as 304, 316L, 321 stainless steel, etc.). Compared with high ferrosilicon and high purity aluminum, its corrosion resistance is better than high purity aluminum and similar to high ferrosilicon, but its mechanical strength and machining performance are incomparable to high purity aluminum and high ferrosilicon. Therefore, C4 steel is currently recognized as the material with the best comprehensive performance among media materials, especially concentrated nitric acid.

      C4 Steel has won the first prize of the Ministry of Weapons’ Science and Technology Progress Achievements. It is similar to the Uranuss Durcomet5, the former Soviet Union Zu654^, the German VEWA611, the French and other Uranuss. In 1984, it was included in the national standard GB2100-80, and its code name was 300.

3. C4 material characteristics

      C4 (00Cr14Ni14Si4) is a high silicon ultra-low carbon ideal nitric acid-resistant stainless steel. It is especially suitable for use in concentrated nitric acid media and is also resistant to corrosion of various concentrated nitric acid mixed acids. It has excellent mechanical properties and process properties of austenitic stainless steel, good welding performance, no preheating before welding, and its welded joints have mechanical properties and corrosion resistance comparable to the base material.

      C4 heat treatment: The casting is heated to 1050℃, then heated in water and cooled, and then solid solution treatment is carried out to obtain the best corrosion resistance.
Welding: It has good welding performance. Manual arc welding is used with Ao 0.12 silicon welding rod. The castings should be subjected to solid solution after welding.
Corrosion resistance: C4 steel is a strong oxidizing material. It can withstand the full concentration of nitric acid at room temperature. It also has excellent corrosion resistance in chromic acid, and is also better than type 18-8 stainless steel in other corrosion media.

C4 steel has the following advantages:

  •       There is no cutter corrosion after welding, and it has good corrosion resistance of small holes and excellent stress corrosion resistance;
  •       C4 steel plastic has good toughness, which increases safety and reliability, and avoids the danger of industrial pure titanium firing and explosion in smoked nitric acid;
  •       C4 steel is far superior to high-purity aluminum corrosion resistance, and has mechanical properties that high silicon cast iron cannot match. Its welded joints have mechanical properties and corrosion resistance comparable to the base material.

 4. C4 application fields

  1. C4 steel is used in the equipment for concentrating nitric acid in indirect method (magnesium nitrate method) with very good results.
  2. C4 steel material is: 00Cr14Ni14Si4 ultra-low carbon austenitic stainless steel, with excellent resistance to intergranular and stress corrosion
